I’m sure you have heard this one before: You can tell a person’s age by looking at their hands. Not true.

Let’s start with the negative. Yes, as we age, hands start to lose volume. This can make veins, tendons, and bones more prominent and result in an almost skeletal appearance. So many people are not happy with the way their hands look. It is very common for people to complain about age spots, wrinkly skin, or dehydrated-looking hands.

However, with new advances in anti-aging treatments and products, this doesn’t have to be the case any longer. There are several things we can do to diminish the signs of aging on our hands including laser treatments, light therapy, skincare products, and even hyaluronic acid filler treatments.

Find out how these treatments can help you change the way you age. Schedule a consultation!

LASER TREATMENT

A fractional laser is a great tool for younger-looking hands. The fractional laser is a revolutionary non-ablative laser therapy designed to dramatically improve skin texture and pigmentation, including the treatment of fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, surgical scars, brown spots, melasma, and stretch marks without significant downtime.  This treatment helps to reduce the signs of aging by increasing collagen production and plumping the skin. Plus, it is safe for all skin types!

Take a look at the powerful changes a fractional laser treatment can make for your skin!

INTENSE PULSED LIGHT THERAPY (IPL)

IPL, also known as a photofacial is a light therapy that treats pigmented lesions (darker discoloration) and vascular lesions (broken capillaries) on the skin. IPL reduces sunspots, age spots, liver spots, senile lentigo, freckles, broken capillaries, cherry angiomas, rosacea, and other skin pigmentation and vascular disorders. IPL is a great treatment for the hands, but is not for clients with darker complexions or melasma.

SUNSCREEN

Although we all know the importance of sun protection, so many of us neglect sunscreen for our hands. Unfortunately, this is the part of the body that gets the most exposure year-round.

Just think, if you subjected the skin on your face to the same things the skin on your hands deal with, your face would be pretty damaged. Other than wrinkles, hands develop sunspots very easily. Not to mention that as you get older, scars on your hands don’t heal as quickly. The best thing you can do for your hands is to provide them with the same protection you give your face daily, SPF. You already lug around a hand cream, so it may as well work for your sun protection, too. Remember, nothing looks better in your 50s than sunscreen in your 20s.

HYALURONIC ACID FILLER

Hand fillers are a form of treatment that can be used to effectively reverse the signs of aging. Fillers generally involve a substance injected into the back of the hands to replace the tissue that is lost due to aging.

The most common type of hand filler is the hyaluronic acid dermal filler which contains a gel composed of substances that are naturally found in the body. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently approved Restylane Lyft, a hyaluronic acid filler, for use in the hands. It’s the first and only hyaluronic acid injectable gel to be FDA approved for an area other than the face.

Remember that your hands shouldn’t only be washed, they should be cared for. Taking preventative steps and seeking proper treatment can help you have youthful-looking hands for years to come. Let us help you design the right plan to fit your needs,  contact your nearest Couture Med Spa today!

Not All Med Spas are Created Equal

Like many people in the world today, you may be looking for ways to turn back the hands of time. You may wish to look younger and rejuvenated and why not? If it makes you feel beautiful, do it! In fact, there has been a massive increase in the demand for less invasive cosmetic treatments over the last 10 years.

This increase in demand has also led to a surge in the number of medical spas opening worldwide. A medspa is a combination of an aesthetic medical center and a day spa that provides non-surgical, aesthetic medical services under the supervision of a licensed physician.

However, you want to be careful when choosing which med spa you go to. After all, beautiful, younger-looking skin requires commitment, not a miracle.

Here are some tips to help guide you through your med spa selection process:

LOOK UP THE SUPERVISING PHYSICIAN AND STAFF

Requirements for supervising physicians may vary by state. But like most aesthetic specialists, I would recommend ensuring that the supervising physician is a board-certified plastic surgeon. Plastic surgeons are trained not only in surgical procedures, but nonsurgical treatments as well.

Having a clinician who has been well trained in aesthetics will be most beneficial in the long run and they will be able to appropriately guide you to the best treatment that is right for your needs.

In addition to staff with specific titles, select a medical spa that has notable experience in providing the treatment you desire. This may include special certifications, awards, or years in the practice. An experienced staff is more likely to provide the results you are looking for.

FEEL OUT THE PEOPLE AND SPACE

Not all med spas are created equal and not all aesthetic clinicians are equally skilled. Each medical spa offers unique procedures and skin care treatments. It is important to understand that there are aesthetic specialists, specialized training, and accredited certifications behind each type of treatment.

It’s okay to ask your clinician about their education and training to ensure that you are making the right decision for your needs. Asking questions will also give you a feel for the staff’s personality and if you would like to work with them.

You should also make consultations at several spas, not just one. Visiting more than one medical spa for a cosmetic consultation will allow you to get a feel for the spa, clinician, staff, and treatment equipment. You want to ensure you’ll be in an environment that makes you feel comfortable. Finally, don’t forget to check out their treatment menu beforehand to be sure they offer the treatment you are looking for.

RESEARCH THE EQUIPMENT

Many of the treatments provided by med spas can be costly. Mainly because the equipment they use is expensive. Plus, there are a countless amount of different lasers and cosmetic product lines used throughout the industry.

Because technology in the aesthetic and medical field is constantly changing, it is important to make sure any med spa you visit is using the latest and greatest equipment for your specific treatment. You want to get your money’s worth. Having knowledge of these different lasers and products will make your decision easier when it comes time to choose a location.

Choosing a medical spa is an important decision that should not be taken lightly, but these tips can help you make the best choice when you are ready to take the leap because your beauty is worth investing in.

READ CLIENT REVIEWS AND TESTIMONIALS

Before deciding to proceed with any cosmetic treatment, you should ask to see other patient’s real results. A worthy medical spa will provide you with before and after images. Click here to see our before and after pictures for yourself!

You should also ask around, research online, and seek testimonials from others who have visited the same med spa you are interested in. This will help you get real information and opinions from individuals who have received the treatments you are interested in. To make things easier, we provide you with video testimonials from our happy patients. Click here to see what they have to say about their experience with us!
