Laser hair removal is known for its benefits of reducing hair growth in an area, saving time and money from daily shaving, expensive wax treatments, and hair removal creams. But one benefit that many people do not think about when they think of laser hair removal is the reduction of ingrown hairs which may result in small dark bumps on the skin!
An ingrown hair is essentially hair that curls under the skin and attempts to penetrate the top layer of the skin resulting in inflammation of the area. Repeated ingrown hairs can result in a phenomenon called post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Although this reaction is not permanent, it can cause a lot of insecurity about the skin, especially if it is on someone’s face.
Laser hair removal treatments will destroy the hair follicle which causes inflamed skin. After the treatments are complete and the hair follicle has died off, you can say goodbye to those ingrown hairs!
Many clients wonder how many treatments they will require. The number of treatments may vary per individual, but most clients require between 6-10 sessions for full reduction.
Clients also often ask if they will see results after one treatment. For many, there is a visible, 20% reduction in hair growth with each treatment. Your hair will be thinner, and you may also find yourself going longer between shaving.
Another popular question is if the treatment is painful. Laser hair removal treatment will feel like a hot rubber band snap or pinch, but the Vectus Laser used at Couture Med Spa has a cooling feature to the tip of the laser which helps minimize any discomfort.
It is also important to be aware of the necessary preparation if you are coming in for a consultation and treatment. It is important for the safety of your skin that you avoid active sun exposure and self-tanner two weeks prior to your treatment. You also to inform your provider of all the over-the-counter and prescription medications you are on prior to your treatments.
Avoid waxing, plucking, or using Nair two weeks prior to your treatment. Retinol-based products should be avoided on the area 5-7 days prior to your treatment. It is important that there is a hair follicle present when being treated for the best results. It is also best to shave the day prior to your treatment. A clean shaved treatment area will not only be less painful, but the results will also be better the closer the laser energy can get to the hair follicle. Ensure the area that you want to be treated is clean.
